In a win-win situation for both telecom leaders, Jio Platforms Limited (JPL), on March 12, 2025, announced an agreement with SpaceX to offer Starlink’s broadband internet services to its customers in India. Yesterday, Airtel, Jio’s rival and another major telecom player in India, announced its pact with Starlink to offer its products and services to Indian users.
JIO TO BRING SPACEX’S STARLINK HIGH-SPEED INTERNET TO ITS CUSTOMERS
Jio in a exchange filing announced:
- Jio and Starlink are expanding horizons, connecting all of India
- Jio is advancing and diversifying its broadband service options to include Starlink connectivity
- This is a significant milestone in India’s connectivity evolution

Jio Platforms Limited (JPL) announced an agreement with SpaceX to offer Starlink’s broadband internet services to its customers in India. This agreement, which is subject to SpaceX receiving its authorizations to sell Starlink in India, enables Jio and SpaceX to explore how Starlink can extend Jio’s offerings and how Jio can complement SpaceX’s direct offerings to consumers and businesses. Jio will make Starlink solutions available through its retail outlets as well as through its online storefronts.
Through this agreement, the parties will leverage Jio’s position as the world’s largest mobile operator in terms of data traffic and Starlink’s position as the world’s leading low Earth orbit satellite constellation operator to deliver reliable broadband services across the country, including the most rural and remote regions of India.
Jio informed exchanges that it will not only offer Starlink equipment in its retail outlets but will also establish a mechanism to support customer service installation and activation. The agreement with SpaceX is part of Jio’s commitment to ensuring that reliable internet is fully accessible to all enterprises, small and medium businesses, and communities across India.

Starlink will complement JioAirFiber and JioFiber by extending high-speed internet to the most challenging of locations in a quick and affordable manner. Jio and SpaceX are also evaluating other complementary areas of cooperation to leverage their respective infrastructure to further enhance India’s digital ecosystem.
“Ensuring that every Indian, no matter where they live, has access to affordable and high-speed broadband remains Jio’s top priority,” said Mathew Oommen, Group CEO, Reliance Jio. “Our collaboration with SpaceX to bring Starlink to India strengthens our commitment and marks a transformative step toward seamless
broadband connectivity for all.”
He further said, “By integrating Starlink into Jio’s broadband ecosystem, we are expanding our reach and enhancing the reliability and accessibility of high-speed broadband in this AI-driven era, empowering communities and businesses across the country.”
“We applaud Jio’s commitment to advancing India’s connectivity,” said Gwynne Shotwell, President and Chief Operating Officer of SpaceX. “We are looking forward to working with Jio and receiving authorization from the Government of India to provide more people, organizations, and businesses with access to Starlink’s highspeed internet services.”
From competition to partner
Yesterday, when Bharti Airtel announced its partnership with Starlink, it was considered a negative development for Reliance Jio, though Starlink already made it clear yesterday that the partnership with Airtel is not an exclusive one, and it will look for more partners in this space. Reliance Industries, through its Jio platform, has already made a large bid to supply satellite internet in India, and now, with Starlink’s collaboration, it will have a upper hand in serving its customers.
Elon Musk owned SpaceX, which operates Starlink, was struggling to set its foot in India as the company had troubles getting the required permission. Recently, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, on his US visit, met with Elon Musk, so rumors were going around of Elon’s Tesla and Starlink finally entering India.

Earlier, Elon Musk’s Starlink was opposed by both leading telecom players Airtel and Jio, but now, both of these companies as Starlink partners, getting necessary permissions will be easy for the company.
Following yesterday’s development, the stock of Bharti Airtel started the day with more than 4% gains, but as Jio also announced its partnership with Starlink, it gave up all the gains and is now trading in negative territory at 1648, down 0.88%.

The stock has a strong resistance in the 1720-1730 range, a big supply zone as the stock has reversed multiple times from there. As long as the stock fails to cross it, it will remain in a range. The technical setup of the stock is strong as it has outperformed the benchmark, so investors/traders should keep the stock on their radar. For Reliance share price outlook, click here
